When we are doing a boulder or block retaining wall, we use great drainage behind the wall so we eliminate as much moisture behind the wall to eliminate pressure and for the freeze/thaw season. Doing this allows for a wall that will last a long time. 

A block retaining wall is made out of a concrete block; most concrete blocks are all the same, so you get a nice, straight, or flat face. This is better if you are looking for a formal wall. A boulder wall is made out of rocks, so each rock is different, so we have to fit each rock to fit for the best look. We source local rocks, which are more round, and we purchase rocks from out of state that have different colors to them, which look very unique.
